On the 11th and 12th of October 2016 a group from VFW District 5 visited the Memorial at Kanchanaburi, (The Bridge on the River Kwai), accompanied by their families. The trip was to see the City and the, newly, refurbished Monument. The Monument was dedicated by VFW District 5 almost 50 years ago and was badly in need of a facelift. The refurbishment was accomplished by Mr. Mick Newbatt and his Thai work crew from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The entire job was done in 2 days, (5 thru 7 Sept), at no cost to the VFW. Our thanks to Mick and his crew for the excellent job they did refurbishing the Monument. VFW District 5 was well represented by members of Posts 10217 (Korat) and 12146 (Banchang).
