Thai Veterans Day
February 3, 2015

On Tuesday, 3 February 2015, members of Post 10217 participated in the celebration of Thai Veterans Day. The day started off with the laying of memorial wreaths at the Yamo Memorial in down town Korat. Participating at the ceremony were Commander Fred Berg, Senior Vice Commander Ed Sostack, and members Stan Haley and Bill (Chappie) Chapman. There was also a wreath laying ceremony performed at the Thai Army Post where Col. Fred, Thai Army (Retired) and our post liaison with the Thai veterans placed a wreath on behalf of Post 10217. From there it was on to the Thai Army Post where we marched with our Thai brothers in arms in a Pass and Review. We then attended an awards ceremony where Commander Berg accepted an Award of Appreciation from the Post Commander and presented an award on behalf of the post and a donation of 10,000 Thai Baht ($312.00) to the Thai Children's Scholarship Fund. Then came the really good part, the luncheon. It was a good day and a good time was had by all.

Below are a few pictures of the day's events. A big thanks goes out to our photographers Pon Sostack and Pue Berg.

Thai Veterans Day
February 3, 2014

As reported by CDR Fred Berg: The original Thai Vets Day Ceremony that was scheduled for a Wreath Laying ceremony at YoMo and one other site and the Parade and review on Post was cancelled - reason unknown. We were invited to the Thai Veterans Hall for a ceremony that was to begin at 0930, but you know thai time is not always on time so the ceremony began at 1000 hrs starting with the Monks chanting for about an hour. Then the CG got up and said a few words and I was asked to come forward and present our gift to the Children's Scholarship fund, the Post approved a THB 10,000. Then I was presented a Gift along with Stan, Chappie (wasn't there), and my Wife (Pue). Then it was the award ceremony for the Children to receive some gift/funds and then some of the Thai Vets received some gifts. After the ceremony we were served a 6 course meal and picture taking. All in all we were well received and asked to comeback next year. As reported by Comrade Stan Haley: Commander Fred Berg and others from VFW Post joined with Thai Veterans to celebrate Thai Veteran's Day with prayers from monks. Commander Fred presented the Commander of the Veteran's Affairs a donation to their scholarship Funds. The day was filled with presentations to Veterans and to some students followed by a luncheon provided by the Thai Veteran's Affairs. -- Stan.

Below are some pictures provided by Comrade Haley.
