Karl W. Richter Memorial Post
27 Feb 1942 – 11 Nov 2013
Douglas Young was born and raised in New Mexico. He was a fighter pilot, flew F4 Phantoms from Thailand to Hanoi, delivering presents for Uncle Ho and friends up there. He was here when Karl Richter got shot down, and had met Richter a few times, although they were in different units. Doug was a warrior, a hunter, a horseman and an outdoorsman. He told some stories about his hunts in Alaska, taking Dall sheep, brown bear and moose. He retired from the Air Force as a major, and got a degree in mechanical engineering, and worked many years for Pratt & Whitney. He ran marathons until after age 60 and was a strong, good looking and capable man. He had only lived here in Thailand for a year or so, with his Thai wife of many years, and his sudden ambush by cancer was a rude surprise to all of us who knew and liked him.·
Rest in Peace, old buddy.
